What is Carbon Neutral?

Climate change is a serious problem affecting all of us.  Our current carbon dioxide emission levels are causing global warming and are unsustainable for the planet.

Going carbon neutral is an easy way that we can all contribute to a solution by taking responsibility for the carbon dioxide emissions we create with our cars, airplanes and energy use.

While this might seem like a big responsibility, it's easier than you might think.  The average American can completely offset their carbon dioxide emissions for as little as $0.50 per day!

To get started, try calculating your household emissions by using TerraPass' online CO2 calculator.

 How can I help?

One effective way we can combat greenhouse gas emissions is to plant trees.

Trees absorb carbon dioxide while they grow and trap it for years to come. On average, over 30 years, a tree planted in the United States will absorb 230kg of CO2.

Trees also help to combat salinity, reduce soil erosion, clean underground water systems and provide habitat for wildlife.

We all contribute to global warming through our daily activities - when we drive, fly or consume electricity and gas.

One solution to this problem is to reduce the energy we consume.  Find out how to reduce your emissions at home and on the road.

The other solution is to offset emissions by planting trees or buying our electricity from renewable energy sources.

World-renowned scientists warn us that current carbon emission levels are causing global warming and leading to accelerated climate change. Current levels of carbon emissions are unsustainable for our planet.  While this is a dire warning, we can all contribute to the solution by becoming responsible for our own contributions to global warming.

Of course, global warming is too big a problem for a handful of people to solve on their own. It's a global problem that requires action on a global scale.

But entrepreneurial groups are leading the way. City and state governments, forward-looking businesses, and enthusiastic citizens are banding together to show that a sustainable future is possible today.
